Always learn poems by heart, ' she said. 'They have to become the marrow in your bones. Like fluoride in the water, they'll make your soul impervious to the world's soft decay.

About This Quote

I used to recite poems to myself when I was little. The poems were all about love and happiness. I also made up songs to go along with the poems. I think my mom made me do this because she thought it would help me learn to read more quickly.

As I grew up, Mother stopped making me memorize poems and songs because she thought the poetry and song memorization would just be a waste of time. She was wrong, though! Because these days, I’m one of the people who has the best memory in the world!
